As professional wilderness stewards, our work is heavily informed by science.  Our Community of Practice focuses catalyzing discussion around contemporary wilderness stewardship issues and completing wilderness character baseline assessments across the National Wilderness Preservation System.

To catalyze discussion, we post position papers from wilderness professionals as our 'Scientific Perspectives' program.  Papers do not reflect a singular opinion within SWS, or agency policy.  Rather, they are put forward to express the opinions of their authors and, we hope, elicit opinons from you.  Email Heather MacSlarrow, Executive Director, to discuss stewardship issues you would like to submit a position paper on.

We complete wilderness character baseline assessments through our Wilderness Fellow program.
